Mariano Rivera suffers season-ending injury, vows to continue career

By UNIVISION NEWS

New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera vowed to make a comeback after suffering a season-ending knee injury this week.

Rivera, a future Hall of Famer who is widely considered the greatest closer of all time, tore his ACL while shagging fly balls in the outfield during pregame batting practice in Kansas City on Thursday. At 42-years-old, many feared that the pitcher’s career was in jeopardy.

But on Friday, the native of Panama told ESPN that he would make a comeback.

“I am coming back,” said Rivera. “Put it down. Write it down in big letters. I’m not going down like this. God willing and given the strength, I’m coming back.”

Over his career, Rivera has won five World Series and became the all-time leader in saves. Rivera’s injury put him on the disabled list for the first time in nine years.
